Reducing Tophi in your Joints

Oct 222021

After learning about the effect of baking soda on the reduction of tophi (hard deposits in the joints), I decided to try it.

After 240 days at 1/2 TSP/day the tophi deposits have been reduced significantly. The hard tophi deposits (in the big toes, tops of both feet and left knee) have so far been reduced to about 20% of what they originally were (i.e., 80% removed).
But, the shrinkage is not linear with time. The greatest reduction (about 35%) is within the first two months, then about 20% more in the next two months (55% reduction total) and another 25% (80% reduction total) after a total of 8 months. At this rate, 90% or more of the tophi will be removed in about one year.

The removal of tophi in the joints provides more maneuverability in that joint. After years of cramped walking I now walk smoothly and effortlessly. Tophi reduction also reduces the pain in a gout attack, making it easier to stop a gout attack in Stage-1 before it progresses to a Stage-2 gout attack. (See "The 3 Stages of a Gout ATTACK" post.)

Unfortunately, that was not enough to control the tophus so I was prescribed "Febuxostat" which after 6 months has eliminated most of the fluid tophus and some of the hardened tophus.
